This tour offers you an exclusive meeting with the Dani, the main ethnic group of the highlands of Indonesian Papua, which is concentrated around the Baliem valley, located at almost 2,000 m altitude, in the hollow of the mountain range which forms the backbone of the island of New Guinea.
Discovered for the first time at the end of the 1930s by an American expedition, the Baliem valley is a land of warriors, the Dani and the Wali, who fought fiercely against each other around thirty years ago.
After perhaps having had the chance to see the Carstenz peak and its last tropical glaciers, you land early in the morning at Jayapura.
Transfer to the hotel and preparation of trekking permits.
In the morning, flight to Wamena, capital of Baliem. On arrival, transfer to the village of Sogokmo (40 mins), where you will meet your porters and your cook, who will accompany you throughout your trek.
Meeting with your porters, and journey to Kurima.
Start of the trek towards the village of Kilise (3h30), which crosses superb gardens cultivated with yams and sweet potatoes. In the afternoon, meeting with the villagers, who share their daily life. Night at a local’s place.

After breakfast, you begin the last part of your trek towards Sogokmo (3h).
The hike passes through the traditional village of Ugem, where the locals are delighted to welcome you.
Arriving in Sogokmo, you are transferred to Wamena (40 mins). Installation at the hotel. The rest of the day is free, and you have the opportunity to visit the nearby local market.
The day is dedicated to visiting the surroundings of Jiwika, where you will attend a tribal war reenactment and local dances. You also share an excellent traditional meal, for which a suckling pig will have been sacrificed according to an age-old ritual. Return to Wamena in the afternoon. Night in the same hotel.
Early morning flight to Jayapura. It's then time to explore the surroundings of the superb Lake Sentani, to visit the anthropology museum, as well as the old Hamadi market in Jayapura.
Transfer to Jayapura airport.
