The highest point in Sumatra, the Kerinci volcano (3,805 m) is also the highest volcano in Indonesia. Its ascent is carried out in two days, largely through thick jungle, and your efforts will be rewarded by a superb panorama at sunrise, since Kerinci dominates seven other peaks and no less than 15 high altitude lakes, including the “Gunung Tujuh”, which, at 1,996 meters above sea level, is the highest lake in Southeast Asia.
Highlights
Welcome in the morning at Padang international airport by your English-speaking guide, and transfer to the small village of Lempur (allow at least 7-8 hours of driving), located on the edge of Lake Kerinci.
Start of the ascent early in the morning. You are supervised by your guide and a porter.
Before heading into the jungle, turn around to admire the tea plantations and rice fields of Kayu Aro, as well as the swamps of Rawa Bento and Mt Tujuh in the distance.
In the jungle you hear the cries of many animals, including endemic monkeys, gibbons, lizards and many birds.

Two hours of walking are still necessary, through scree and rubble, before reaching the crater. Superb panorama of the entire region at sunrise. With any luck, you'll see the lava bubbling at the bottom of the crater.
Later in the morning, you begin your return walk (6 hours).
