Historical Milestones in Collective Memory

On April 11, 1815—a date commemorated as the locality's feast day—residents remember the eruption of Mount Tambora. Legend has it that two neighbouring kingdoms were devastated that day. Weakened by this tragedy, the Pekat and Tambora dynasties chose to join the Sultanate of Dompu.

Following Indonésian independence, Dompu became an autonomous administrative division. Distinguished regents have led it since. Under H. Bambang M. Yasin and Arifuddin SH, the locality suffered considerable damage during the 2016 earthquake. Many homes were destroyed, and there were casualties and injuries.

The regency covers 2,321.55 km² and is home to 236,665 inhabitants (2020 census). It is divided into 8 districts: Dompu (the capital), Woja, Hu'u, Kempo, Kilo, Pekat, Pajo, and Manggelewa. All are situated between 100 and 500 metres in altitude. With each journey, sweeping hills and idyllic plains unfold before your eyes.
