Mysterious Sumatra

Airport pick-up in Medan by your English-speaking guide (or English-speaking), and transfer to your hotel.

In the morning, visit the Sultan's Palace, the Grand Mosque and the Chinese temple.

Then you head northwest towards Tangkahan. You pass through numerous rubber tree plantations and take the opportunity to stretch your legs while discovering the methods of exploiting this precious sap.

The morning is dedicated to a first discovery, on foot, of the jungle in Mt Leuser National Park, where you have the opportunity to observe rich fauna and flora.

The morning is dedicated to a walking tour alongside elephants, followed by bathing and feeding them.

Lunch by the riverside.

4x4 vehicles then take you through plantations and forest paths to the village of Bukit Lawang, famous for its orangutan rehabilitation center.

Transfer to Berastagi, the capital of the Karo Batak region, one of the most prosperous areas in the region.

Visit of the traditional market and the Lumbini Buddhist pagoda.

Weather permitting, you will also approach the slopes of Sinabung volcano to discover a ghost village covered in ash.

Early in the morning, you are dropped at the foot of Mount Sibayak, which overlooks the Karo plateau. You begin the ascent along a path lined with thick, rustling jungle. Picnic at the summit of the volcano, from where the panorama of the entire region is superb, then you begin the descent via an opposite route, which takes you to the Debuk-Debuk hot springs, where you have the opportunity to enjoy the healing properties of the water in the hot and sulfurous basins. [Note: possibility of doing the climb at night to arrive at the summit just before sunrise].

Morning transfer to the center of the Samosir island, little visited. Isolated on a high altitude plateau, you discover Lake Sidihoni (a lake on an island on a lake on an island!), which spans 1 km² and whose changing hue has inspired more than one legend.

You then begin a lovely hike towards Pangururan, on the western coast of the island, through rich vegetation and along a path that offers you breathtaking landscapes. You also encounter peasants, armed with their machetes, heading to the fields. In this region, oral tradition has preserved many legends.

At Pangururan, you have the opportunity to relax in natural hot spring baths.

Early in the morning, you take the ferry back to Parapat and then the road to Medan, via the large towns of Pematang Siantar and Tebing Tinggi, around which stretch vast plantations of rubber trees and oil palms.

Transfer to Medan airport and flight (around 2 PM) to Padang, the capital of the Minangkabau region.

Welcome, then transfer to the wonderful Harau Valley

Day of trekking in the forest and through rice fields, during which you discover nature and the traditional life of Minang farmers. Visit of neighboring villages by becak, local transport, swimming at waterfalls and picnic.

You will have the opportunity to climb to the top of a hill in order to admire the plunging view over the valley or to search for eels in the river. You will discover not only a few waterfalls, but also many species of birds and flowers.

In the morning, you head to the ancient capital of the Minang country, Batusangkar, and visit the Pagaruyung King's Palace, transformed into a museum of local culture. Along the way, you make a few stops, particularly to admire the magnificent panorama of Tabek Patah.

At Sungai Tarab, you also visit a coffee processing factory.

Once in the surroundings of the Singkarak Lake, you visit a few weaving and wood carving workshops.

Early in the morning, you first head towards a few traditional villages, then towards "Puncak Lawang", a high point that overlooks the magnificent Lake Maninjau and exudes a very romantic atmosphere. You then embark on a lovely walk towards the shores of the lake, through the tropical forest. You spend the afternoon by the lake, where the silhouettes of fishermen collecting their nets are reflected on the purple waters.

Return to Batusangkar in late afternoon.

Drive to Padang in the morning, where you discover the old town and its old port. Visit to the Adityawarman museum, the great mosque with Minangkabau architecture, and a stroll on Padang hill from where we will have a magnificent view over the entire city and the ocean at sunset.
