The Imogiri region, some fifteen kilometres south-east of Yogyakarta, is full of traditional villages where the preservation of Javanese culture is important. Here you can watch the puppets of the famous Javanese shadow theatre, Wayang Kulit, being made by hand.
A little further on, you'll be invited to an introduction to batik techniques, and you'll leave with your own work. A traditional, rural atmosphere guaranteed!
