Day-by-day itinerary

Welcome to Bali!
Upon your arrival at Denpasar airport, transfer to Ubud, nestled on the hills north of Denpasar, surrounded by lush rice fields and picturesque ravines. Known for its painting school, Ubud has managed to preserve its charm and tranquility despite tourist development.
After settling in, take advantage of your free time to soak up the local atmosphere.

Ubud, City of Art
This morning, discover the Ubud Palace, an emblem of Balinese history where the royal family once resided. Just across from it, the craft market invites you to stroll among the colorful stalls to find souvenirs and local items.
You then set off for a pleasant walk through magnificent rice fields to TTampaksiring, where a family of Balinese artists welcomes you in their traditional home and offers you a typical meal, accompanied by a Balinese dance performance.
Hiking time: approximately 4 hours
In the afternoon, stop at Tampaksiring to visit the impressive Gunung Kawi temples, famous for the nine royal tombs carved into the cliff, then continue to Temple Tirta Empul and its sacred pools, where hundreds of Balinese come each day to purify themselves.
Return to Ubud early in the evening, with the possibility of strolling freely through the village.

Volcan Batur
The morning begins with the discovery of the caldera of the Mount Batur. You visit the temple Ulun Danau Batur the second largest temple in Bali after the Temple of Besakih, rebuilt in 1926 after a lava flow destroyed the original building. This temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lakes and rivers.
In early afternoon, you set off to climb the volcano through fields of solidified lava. Along your walk, you go around the four craters formed by successive eruptions, before beginning the descent.
Hiking time: approximately 2 hours / Elevation gain ~600m
Transfer to your hotel in late afternoon, for a well-deserved moment of rest.

East of Bali
Mid-morning, you head towards the traditional Bali Aga village of Trunyan, along Lake Batur. You discover this unique village by boat and visit its singular cemetery, where the deceased decompose in the open air according to ancestral traditions.
Late morning, head to Kehen Temple, one of the most beautiful and emblematic temples of Bali, to admire its architecture and sacred atmosphere. After this visit, transfer to Sidemen to reach your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful setting of the region.

Authentic Bali
The morning is dedicated to a beautiful hiking excursion (approximately 4 hours) around Sidemen, through terraced rice fields and high-altitude plantations.
Along the way, you cross several hamlets, offering wonderful opportunities to meet the locals and discover their daily life.
You will also cross an old suspension bridge, surrounded by lush vegetation, in a setting that is both exotic and enchanting.

Summit of the Gods
At night, transfer to the Pasar Agung temple (1,600 m) to begin the ascent at midnight, after a ritual offering performed by the guide to request protection and safety. The hikers, in a gesture of respect, light some incense sticks and recite a short prayer.
The trail circles the temple and quickly enters a dense and steep tropical forest, punctuated by ravines and roots that sometimes need to be stepped over. After an hour, the vegetation clears, offering first views of the surroundings. The climb continues through rocky and steep passages, where caution and concentration are essential. As altitude increases, the volcanic landscape gradually unfolds: the caldera, the Balinese coastline and neighboring islands appear before your eyes.
The final part of the ascent is the most demanding: rocky and stony, it requires patience and endurance. After passing the base camp at 2,622 m and a final technical section, you reach the sub-peak (*2,866 m*), offering a spectacular panorama of the surrounding volcanoes and the mountain ranges of Bali. The guide's offerings and prayers mark gratitude for the protection received during this exceptional ascent. For the most daring, a few extra minutes allow you to reach the true summit of the Agung volcano (3,028 m).
The descent, long and technical, demands as much attention as the ascent, but the beauty of the landscape and the pride of having tackled this unforgettable summit make the effort memorable.
Hiking time between 10 and 12 hours round trip
Elevation gain ~1,430m

On the way to Lombok
In the morning, transfer to the port of Padangbai, from where you board a speed-boat to reach the island of Lombok.
Upon arrival, continue towards Sembalun Lawang, a village located at the foot of the island's majestic volcanoes, an ideal starting point for your next adventures.

Rinjani Volcano Approach
The day begins with a leisurely walk through rolling hills, crossing vegetable fields and agricultural areas, providing ideal warm-up before the ascent. After crossing a small stream, the trail follows the remains of an old road project, started 30 years ago under President Suharto's regime, but never completed. Nature has reclaimed the space, creating a pleasant route dotted with bridges crossing old lava flows. The first section crosses hills and meadows, with a short forest section at 1,220 m altitude.
Post 1, Pemantuan, offers shelter at 1,428 m, while most hikers take a lunch break at Post 2 – Tengengean (1,513 m) on one of the scenic bridges.
From Post 3 – Pada Balong (1,772 m) onwards, the trail becomes more challenging: the slope steepens, the terrain becomes more demanding and the hike requires sustained effort. For three hours, the climb is intense, and you constantly catch sight of a summit that seems close… but which is only a deceptive ridge. Finally, after crossing this last ridge, the landscape opens onto a breathtaking panorama: on the left, the summit of Rinjani dominates, and 600 meters below stretches Lake Segara Anak, nicknamed "the child of the sea lake," offering one of the most spectacular views in Indonesia.
The trail then skirts the crater edge for about twenty minutes until Sembalun Rim – Plawangan Dua (2,658 m), where the camp is set up for the night, in a comfortable space offering an unobstructed view of the volcano and the lake.

Rinjani Summit Ascent
The summit ascent begins at night, ideally during a half-moon period, when the clear sky of the dry season illuminates the trail without needing a torch. Departure takes place after 3am, and moonlight already lights up the volcanic slopes, offering an almost supernatural atmosphere. The first 350 meters rising from the camp are steep and cross high-altitude vegetation. Quickly, the ground transforms into volcanic gravel from around 3,000 meters onwards. The first stage takes you to the crater ridge (2,969 m), where the moonlit view of the Mont Rinjani and the crater edge is simply magical. As you climb higher, the trail becomes steeper and breathing more labored: the altitude makes itself felt. Each step reveals ever more impressive panoramas, and the ridge regularly offers breathtaking viewpoints over the volcanic complex. The final 300 meters before the summit are a true challenge: the deep, loose volcanic sand makes each advance slow and demanding. You progress step by step, catching your breath every ten seconds, in a physically demanding but incredibly rewarding climb.
At sunrise, the light completely transforms the landscape. The changing colors, shadows and reliefs of the Mont Rinjani unfold in an extraordinary palette. The final ridge is narrow and windswept, dotted with rocks serving as shelter from the icy trade winds. Reaching the summit of Indonésie's second-highest volcano is a moment of pure wonder: the immensity of the landscapes, the majesty of Lake Segara Anak and the impressive verticality of its cliffs will leave you with unforgettable memories.
The descent back to camp follows the same route and, while faster, still requires vigilance and concentration. It is tempting to slide on the gravel to speed up, but the imposing panoramas deserve to be savored at every step.
The next stage leads to Lake Segara Anak, less physically demanding but more technical. The trail, initially steep, gradually levels out to cross high-altitude meadows and old lava flows overgrown with vegetation. Finally, the lake appears around a bend: surrounded by dramatic volcanic cliffs and protected by the steep slopes of Rinjani, it stretches out in all its splendor, a blue jewel in the heart of the volcano.
Hiking time approximately 7-8 hours
Elevation gain ~ +1,070m / -1,705m

Segara Anak Lake and Gunung Baru Discovery
The Segara Anak lake, perched at 2,020 m altitude, offers an impressive spectacle but is sometimes marred by waste left by large groups of Muslim and Hindu pilgrims who stop there. Despite this, the area remains an essential stopping point thanks to the presence of the hot springs of Aik Kalak, accessible in ten minutes' walk. To reach them, simply follow the opening of the lake where water flows out, cross the stream twice, then descend a steep slope for 200 m. Natural pools have been developed to retain the thermal waters and allow bathing. Be careful though: the highest pools are often too hot – and rather dirty – while the large lower pool, adorned with two small waterfalls, offers an ideal temperature and clearer water.
The more adventurous can extend the experience by climbing the Barujari volcano (Gunung Baru), located in the center of the lake. Following the east shore, you reach the crater in about two hours, then the smoking summit in an additional hour. This climb requires a round trip of at least four hours: plan an extra night by the lake if necessary. Note that access may be prohibited in case of volcanic activity.
In the afternoon, you resume your journey north via Goa Susu ("milk cave", 1,885 m), before reaching Torean (over 10 km). A vehicle awaits you there to take you back to Sembalun Lawang. The journey then continues to Kayangan port, where you board a ferry to the island of Sumbawa. This island, at the crossroads of Indian cultural influences, remains famous for the cataclysmic eruption of Tambora in 1815, the deadliest ever recorded, which disrupted the global climate.

Rest day and preparation for Tambora
This day is entirely dedicated to rest, offering an ideal time to recover after the exertion of the previous days.
During this time, your English-speaking support team takes care of the final logistical preparations for the ascent of the majestic Tambora volcano.

Approach to Mount Tambora
Your day begins with a low-altitude trail, where the heat and humidity of the jungle are quickly felt. After about an hour of walking, you will find a clear water source, ideal for filling your water bottles before continuing the ascent.
The route then progresses in stages through several posts:
- Post 1 – 1,080 m
- Post 2 – 1,320 m (*water point available*)
- Post 3 – 1,630 m (*water point available*)
- Post 4 – 1,800 m
After 6 to 7 hours of walking, you reach post 5 at 2,060 m, where you set up your camp for the night. This stage marks the end of your long approach day and prepares you for the final ascent of Tambora.
Hiking time approximately 6-7h
Elevation gain ~ +1,620m

Summit ascent and sunrise on Tambora
In the middle of the night, you resume the climb for the last 600 m of elevation gain leading to the summit of the Tambora volcano. The vegetation gradually becomes rarer, giving way to a mineral landscape that reveals the nearby coast. Late in the night, you cross the final meters in the black volcanic sands before reaching the edge of the immense caldera (2,638 m).
The spectacle is striking: one of the world's largest craters opens before your eyes, while to the west the silhouette of Mount Rinjani is outlined, bathed by a spectacular sunrise. The highest point, located on the western edge of the crater, is marked by a cairn and an Indonesian flag. Exercise extra caution if you choose to approach it: certain areas are unstable and require crossing two deep trenches.
You then descend back to your camp to enjoy a well-deserved brunch, before continuing the descent to post 2, where you spend another night under canvas.
Hiking time approximately 6-8h
Elevation gain ~ +580m / -1,320m

Quiet return to Pancasila village
After the intensity of the climb, this day is marked by relaxation. You will take a gentle walk of 2 to 3 hours through the soothing landscapes of the Tambora slopes before returning to the village of Pancasila.
This return marks the end of your volcanic adventure, leaving time to appreciate the last moments in nature.
Hiking time approximately 2-3 hours
Elevation loss ~ -620m

Discovery of Labuan Jambu, Hidden Gem of Sumbawa
The morning is free, ideal for resting or enjoying the surroundings.
In the afternoon, you head towards the port of Labuan Jambu. Nestled away from the most crowded tourist circuits, this fishing village is a true hidden gem. Here, nature, culture and adventure meet to offer travelers an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Magical encounter with whale sharks in Saleh Bay
The Saleh Bay, located facing Labuan Jambu, is famous for hosting the majestic whale sharks, the largest fish in the world that can reach 12 meters long. Peaceful, they feed mainly on plankton and small fish that abound in these rich waters.
Late at night (*around 4am*), you board a traditional boat to join, at sunrise, a small group of fishermen pulling in their nets. This is the privileged moment when whale sharks appear. You put on mask, snorkel and fins to approach them as closely as possible and swim alongside them. Their friendly and curious behavior makes this experience truly unforgettable.
You return to Labuan Jambu mid-morning for a moment of relaxation before lunch. In the afternoon, transfer to Sumbawa Besar, capital of the western part of the island, where your journey continues.

Moyo Island
A day dedicated to discovering Moyo Island, a true natural gem. Since 1986, a national park has protected its lush vegetation and diverse wildlife, including birds, monkeys, bats, wild boar and deer.
The marine environments around the island are also preserved thanks to a marine reserve, offering pristine reefs to explore. In 2019, UNESCO recognized the ecological importance of the island by inscribing it in its global network of biosphere reserves.
Return to the hotel in late afternoon to relax after this nature immersion.

Rest in paradise
Two free days to fully enjoy the idyllic setting of the coast. Relaxation on the beach, swimming in turquoise waters, or simply unwinding in the shade of palm trees. These days allow you to recover after the treks and appreciate the natural beauty of the island at your own pace.

See you very soon in Indonésie!
Free morning to enjoy the island one last time, stroll by the water or take a last sun bath.
