History

Situated on the path toward the wooden bridge connecting Ceningan Island, this unusual residence is the creation of puppeteer Made Byasa. Between 1961 and 1976, the artist carved an entire dwelling into the rock face using rustic materials. Within his subterranean home, he built a kitchen, bedroom, and living area. The Gala-Gala house pays tribute to the Hindu epic Wana Parwa, recounting the adventures of the Pandawas.

Climate

Warmth graces Nusa Lembongan year-round, with average temperatures ranging from 29°C to 32°C. Water temperatures remain pleasant throughout the day regardless of season. However, the area experiences heavy rainfall in December, January, and February. The ideal time to visit? Certainly, the months of July, August, and September!

To reach Nusa Lembongan, take a boat from Sanur, approximately 45 minutes' drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport. For your sea crossing, several options are available:

• Fast boat (public speedboat): the journey takes roughly thirty minutes at a cost around 150,000 Rupiah
• Slow boat (public ferry): the voyage takes one and a half hours, costing 60,000 Rupiah. Choose this option if you'd like to enjoy the scenery and mingle with locals during the crossing
• Private boat: naturally with higher fares, but premium service included

Motorcycle remains the most practical transportation method on Nusa Lembongan. Daily scooter rental costs approximately 75,000 Rupiah. Note: the island has no gas stations, so fill up before departing. However, street vendors can assist in emergencies.

Beyond motorcycles, bemos (minibuses with drivers) also serve as transport options on Nusa Lembongan. Ideal for group outings, these small trucks are available from 450,000 Rupiah for a full-day rental.
