Where to Surf?

You can't mention "surf" without referencing Bali. The Island of the Gods is recognized worldwide as the meeting point for an impressive number of tourists who come to ride its waves. The majority of these are Europeans or Australians, and they've contributed to the island's renowned status. Kuta Beach is perhaps the most famous. Beginners can learn to surf in excellent conditions here. Novices will also appreciate Bingin Beach. For more experienced surfers, head to Kuta Reed, Sulutan, or Padang-Padang. You'll also find good spots at Legian, Seminyak, and Nusa Lembongan.

Lombok, less crowded than Bali, boasts notable sites such as Gerupul, Ekas, and Mawi.

On Sumatra, Nias Island offers some of the world's best surf spots. Located about a hundred kilometers off the west coast of Sumatra, it's worth the journey. We invite you to visit Sorake Beach, ideal for pursuing your passion. Every year, numerous national and international competitions take place here. Pulau Weh Beach is also fascinating to explore.

On Java, several standout surf spots include G-Land, also known as Plengkung Beach, located on the island's east side in Alas Purwo National Park. It attracts surfers from all over the world. It's also easily accessible by boat from Bali.

The Nusa Tenggara archipelago is also a paradise for surf enthusiasts, with renowned spots to discover. If you're passing through Sumbawa, don't miss Scar Reef at Jereweh. Also add Supersucks, Yoyo's, and Townsite beaches to your list. South of Bima, you'll find the spectacular Lakey Peak spots.

Tips for Your Stay

The best time to surf in Indonésie runs from June to October. However, this is also the archipelago's peak tourist season. Keep in mind that all seasons offer great surfing, and avoiding the tourist crowds can be an equally rewarding alternative.

As for precautions, they're the same as anywhere else. We advise remaining vigilant regarding currents, wave power, and the sun – your number one enemy. Shark attacks are rare, but jellyfish are quite present, and we recommend caution.
