The spirit of travel
The first Indonesian national park to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ujung Kulon is renowned for its Javan rhinoceroses, an endangered species. The park was a fertile agricultural region until the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano in 1883, and, although water tourism (notably surfing) has developed there in recent years, Ujung Kulon remains a wildlife sanctuary that we are trying to preserve.

Early morning transfer (around 5am) to Carita, where you board a speed-boat that takes you to have breakfast on Handeleum island.
Return to Handeleum in late afternoon.

In the Jungle of Ujun Kulon
Carita → Cidaun
Early in the morning, you head towards the Cigenter River, which you explore by canoe, through thick tropical jungle. This will be an opportunity to track and observe local wildlife: the riverbanks are lined with footprints of banteng and Java rhinoceros, for example. The treetops shelter many hornbills; it is also not uncommon to spot pythons clinging to tree branches, as well as monitor lizards rushing towards the banks.
Transfer then to Peucang Island, located off the northwest coast of the national park, where the water is crystal clear and the sand white. Here, underwater life is teeming, but you will also be accompanied by grey monkeys, deer, wild boar and many bird species.
In the late afternoon, you take a lovely hike towards Cidaon, in order to get close to wild bulls in particular, and a few Java peacocks.
After dinner, night hike to track the surrounding wildlife.
3 to 4 hours of activities
