The village of Bobung

Not far from the village of Putat, in the Gunungkidul region, it is in Bobung that authentic wooden batik masks are crafted. This specialty is a tradition of the village inhabitants, who practice Topeng Panji (the mask dance). They perform this mask dance each harvest season to express their gratitude.

Beyond the creation of wooden batik masks, the village also produces trays, puppets, key chains and many other objects.

Visitors can discover the process of creating batik on wood in the workshops and explore galleries of batik artworks.

The village of Nglanggeran

If you wish to breathe fresh air and escape the hustle and bustle of the city, this place is for you.

In the ancient volcanic complex lies the small village of Nglanggeran. Here, you can immerse yourself in the daily activities of the locals: planting rice, crafting masks and other handicrafts from young coconut leaves, and participating in the preparation of delicious local dishes.

This nature-surrounded village also offers a variety of typical outdoor activities such as kite flying, camping and hiking.

The village of Manding

The small village of Manding is located about fifteen kilometres from Yogyakarta and is renowned for its leather workshops. Bags, wallets, leather jackets, belts… You'll find them all!

In this village, leather craftspeople work daily and display numerous creations in their homes. The leather goods are offered at fair prices, and potential buyers are also invited to negotiate.

The village of Kelor

A lush village nestled in a small hamlet, Kelor is home to farmers and producers who cultivate mushrooms and salak, more commonly called the "snake fruit".

In addition to enjoying a verdant and lush landscape, as well as local specialties, visitors have the opportunity to engage in various outdoor activities.

The batik village of Giriloyo

Known for its hand-drawn batik works, the village of Giriloyo has become a true batik capital.

The village artists are keen to share their skills with visitors in various ways. Those who wish to learn more about batik can gain insight by creating patterns themselves, using a canting (pen-shaped tool) to spread hot wax over the fabric. As a souvenir, each visitor receives a small piece of batik.
