History

Poverty long plagued Pemuteran, with the population living primarily from fishing. The land was too arid to cultivate anything other than corn.

In 1990, thanks to tourism and notably the initiative of investor Agung Prana, who established the first hotel there, the village found a new lease on life. However, with its development and the explosion of mass tourism, environmental protection gradually became a central concern. The destruction of marine biodiversity caused a significant decline in fish populations. This in turn affected tourism activities related to diving and snorkeling.

Coral reef restoration projects enabled Pemuteran to gain international recognition. Its reputation made it one of Bali's must-visit destinations.

Today

Pemuteran has established itself as a major Balinese tourism hub. It offers its visitors an exceptional living environment and a peaceful atmosphere conducive to relaxation. With lush terraced rice fields on one side and clear blue sea on the other, enhanced by the famous Ijen volcano in the background, the landscapes of Pemuteran will delight all visitors.

This town is a true ecotourism model. Indeed, thanks to the cohesion and participation of the local population, Pemuteran has won numerous awards in environmental management. It is also known for its underwater biodiversity that hosts a wide variety of animal species.

Water sports are among the main leisure activities offered in Pemuteran. Its magnificent beach and turquoise sea lend themselves to diving, snorkeling, jet skiing, and more. Just 2 km from the village, discover the Menjangan marine park and its numerous caves containing coral reefs of different types and colors.

Climate

The northwest part of Bali island enjoys a hot and humid equatorial climate. This region is pleasant to visit year-round. However, to make the most of your stay, plan your trip during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

Car rental is the best option to reach Pemuteran, regardless of where you start from on the island of Bali. The village is easily accessible from the southern tourist centers of the island such as Kuta, Sanur or Nusa Dua.
