History

Munduk was once a retreat for Dutch colonists who came to escape the heat of the colonial capital of Singaraja. Beginning in the early 1900s, they constructed buildings whose architecture can still be appreciated today. Thanks to its geographical position, Munduk enjoyed a climate conducive to cultivating products such as coffee, cacao and cloves, which were once the source of its reputation.

Following the War of Independence and the collapse of coffee prices, the village fell into crisis and was forgotten. It wasn't until the 1990s that it gradually emerged from obscurity thanks to tourism development spearheaded by Pak Nyoman, the founder of Munduk's first hotel.

After approximately 3 kilometers, you'll find a marked trail leading to the waterfalls.

Beyond the waterfalls, you can also organize walks on foot or by scooter to appreciate the magnificent terraced rice fields surrounding the village. After this stroll, you can unwind in the Air Panas or the hot springs of Banjar. When to Visit Munduk?

The village of Munduk enjoys a tropical climate with a long rainy season and a short dry season. While it's quite difficult to predict Munduk's weather, the rainy season generally falls between November and April. This is the season to avoid. Therefore, the best time to visit this village begins from April onwards.

Munduk is located 65 km from Ubud. The drive takes between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours. Access to this village is relatively easy, as the roads are in excellent condition.
