Cemoro Lawang is first and foremost a destination for nature lovers. Situated at 2,217 meters above sea level, it serves as both the entry point to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park and the closest village to Mount Bromo's crater. Despite the influx of tourists, residents have managed to preserve their way of life, traditions, and culture.

While there isn't much to do within the village itself, its location offers one of Indonesia's most spectacular sunrises. Indeed, when the sun dispels the mist, gradually revealing the surrounding landscape formed by volcanoes, it's a truly magical moment not to be missed.

The panoramic view the village offers over the sand sea, Bromo, Semeru, and Batok is extraordinary. From the village, you can reach Mount Penanjakan on foot or by jeep—the best vantage point to admire Bromo and the sand sea surrounding it at sunrise.

Beyond its magnificent landscapes, Cemoro Lawang village is also known for being home to the Tengger tribe, a people devoted to their traditions, particularly the practice of bringing offerings into the Bromo crater's smoking mouth. Climate

The Cemoro Lawang region enjoys a hot and humid equatorial climate year-round. However, due to its 2,217 m altitude, temperatures are cooler, especially in the mornings. While the climate is rather contrasted, there is a rainy season between November and May, with January and February being the wettest months; and a dry season from June through October.

The simplest way to reach Cemoro Lawang village is by taking public transport from the Bayuangga bus terminal in Probolinggo. From this terminal, you can travel directly to the village aboard what locals call a "Bison"—a minibus with a capacity of 15 passengers. The journey takes between 1.5 to 2 hours.
